The Truman Scholarship is an award for students committed to a career in public service. This may include working in the government at any level or work with non-profits, educational institutions, or the military. The award helps students attend graduate school at the university of their choice, with 55-60 scholarship recipients selected each year.
Funding
Eligibility
- Applicants must apply during the second-to-last year of their undergraduate degree
- Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to a career in public service
- Those pursuing an MBA are not eligible
Citizenship
- Only U.S. citizens may apply

GPA
- There is no minimum GPA for this scholarship although applicants need to demonstrate their ability to succeed in their chosen graduate program
BYU application deadline
- Application opens in August (email national.scholarships@byu.edu to request an application be opened)
- Initial BYU application review in early November
- BYU endorsement interviews in early December
- Candidates must be endorsed by BYU to apply
Scholarship deadline
- The foundation deadline is the first Tuesday in February
