The George J. Mitchell Scholarship

The Mitchell Scholarship is an opportunity for future leaders of America to complete a one-year postgraduate degree in Ireland or Northern Ireland, with up to 12 recipients chosen each year from the United States.
The Mitchell Scholarship has been suspended for the 2024 application cycle.

Funding

  • Travel to and from Ireland/Northern Ireland

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have a bachelor's degree before beginning study as a Mitchell Scholar
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old but not yet 30 years old by the date of the application deadline

Citizenship

  • Only U.S. citizens may apply

Additional requirements

  • Applicants need only apply for the scholarship (not to a particular university)

BYU application deadline

  • The application opens in April
  • BYU internal deadlines begin in August
  • Candidates must be endorsed by BYU to apply for this award
