The Rhodes Scholarship is an international postgraduate award for students to study at the University of Oxford, with 32 scholarship recipients chosen each year from the United States.
Funding
Eligibility
- Applicants must be 23 years old or younger by October 1 of the application year OR 27 years old or younger if the applicant has completed their first undergraduate degree within the last two years (NOTE: This is a recent policy change)
Citizenship
- Both U.S. and international students may apply
- For international applicants, the deadline is late July
Additional requirements
- Applicants need only apply for the scholarship—not to the University of Oxford
Criteria
- A high level of intellectual and academic achievement
- Energy to use one's talents fully
- Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
- Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings
GPA
- 3.7-4.0 (the average for award recipients is 3.9)
BYU application deadline
- The application opens in early July
- To apply, students must meet BYU’s initial internal deadline of August 1st
- Candidates must be endorsed by BYU to apply for this award
Scholarship deadline
- For US applicants, the foundation deadline is the first Wednesday of October
- For international applicants, the foundation deadline is late July
