Katelyn Cranney, a BYU economics alumni and first-year graduate student at Stanford University, is a recipient of the 2025 Knight-Hennessy Scholar Program, awarded to students studying at Stanford. As one of 84 scholars, and BYU’s first alumni to receive this award, Cranney will receive up to three years of financial support and leadership training beginning this fall as she pursues a Ph.D. in economics.

The Knight-Hennessy Scholarship is a prestigious, fully funded graduate-level scholarship program at Stanford University, designed to develop a community of future global leaders. The program provides support for up to three years of graduate study in any of Stanford’s seven schools, including law, business, medicine, engineering, and the humanities. In addition to academic funding, scholars participate in the King Global Leadership Program, which focuses on leadership development, multidisciplinary education, and global engagement. The scholarship aims to prepare scholars to address complex global challenges through collaboration, innovation, and ethical leadership.
