Fifteen students were recognized on Sept. 29, 2025, at the “You Hit Submit!” dinner for taking the risk and spending the time to apply for competitive merit-based post-graduate scholarships. Hosted by the office of National Scholarships and Prestigious Fellowships and the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies,“You Hit Submit!” is an event recognizing the hard work and preparation students put in their scholarship applications.
“This is one of our favorite nights, because this is pure celebration of all your efforts in applying for these very rigorous and prestigious scholarships,” Amy McLaughlin, National Scholarships and Prestigious Fellowships Coordinator, said. “Congratulations that you are the type of people who have, throughout your college career and your lives, developed yourselves to be the type of people who can apply and be competitive for these scholarships.”
Sergio Romero, applying for the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Brazil said, “Working with the office has been super easy. They have been very helpful in pushing me to apply and to have the best application that I can have.”
Other students, like Sergio worked with the National Scholarship office on their rigorous applications. Students applied for the Schwarzman, Knight-Hennessy, Gates Cambridge, and Fulbright Scholarships. Each student received a certificate acknowledging their hard work.
Applying for the Schwarzman Scholarship, Estelle Robins said, “The office was extremely helpful in keeping me on track and really developing my ideas. They have so much understanding and knowledge of what is required in these scholarships. The office and this experience helped me really tangibly articulate what I want to do, how I want to do it and why and how it matters to me as a person and in the future.”
McLaughlin concluded with sharing a quote by Spencer W. Kimball about a rise in brilliant students who will touch many individuals, relating it to the students present. She expressed her gratitude for each student she worked with and congratulates them again.
“I have seen this (quote) play out in the lives of students that have gotten these awards, this is who you are. You have been shining stars, you have been beacons of light, and have touched men and women throughout the world,” McLaughlin said, “I congratulate you all on being that type of person.”
